Day 1: Depart Atlanta for Rome, Italy

We depart Atlanta airport for our overnight flight into Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci airport.

Day 2: Benvenuti a Roma! / Welcome Banquet

Welcome to Rome! You will be met by Joseph Walker of Italy Revealed and we will transfer over to our centrally located hotel in Rome.

After check-in procedures and some time to relax, we will enjoy an orientation brief of our Italy activities as well as some free-time to take our first steps into the eternal city….

Evening: We will get together in the evening and transfer to a traditional Roman restaurant for a banquet alla italiana. We will learn with our local hosts and restaurant owner about some of the traditional Roman dishes and then sample them, course by course, with fine local wines. More than a simple meal, this is a voyage into gastronomical discovery!

Overnight in Rome

Day 3: Vatican Museums / Rome of the Caesars

After a delicious breakfast, we will transfer over to Vatican City. Vatican City, an independent state within Italy, holds some of the world’s most precious art and artifacts from 2,000 years ago to the present. Our itinerary includes a visit of the museums with special emphasis on Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel and the Basilica of St. Peter’s.

Lunch : We will be free to enjoy a local restaurant or trattoria of our choice. Joseph will be on hand to give excellent recommendations.

Afternoon : We will transfer over to the Coliseum to begin a Rome of the Caesar program. We will discover ancient Rome through a visitation of its main monuments including the fabled Roman Coliseum, the Roman Forum, the Circus Maximus, the Bocca della Verita, and many other important stops along the way! More than a simple sight-seeing tour, we will discover Rome in a unique and memorable way.

Evening Free to explore more of Rome.

Overnight in Rome

Day 4: Travel to Sorrento via Cumae / Welcome Banquet Neapolitan Style

After breakfast, we will transfer South from Rome to the Naples area. Upon arrival, we will visit sites that are off the beaten path but are important in discovering the origins of this wonderful country. We will visit Cumae, the oldest Greek colony of Western Europe (founded around 775 B.C.) as well as ride on an original Roman road and visit the site where the apostle Paul first came to Italy via the local port. After some free time for lunch in the seaside town of Pozzuoli, where we can also enjoy seeing the ancient market place where notables such as Julius Cesar and Cleopatra strolled, we will continue on to Sorrento.

Sorrento, named after the Sirens that enchanted Ulysses in his Homeric odysseys, it is also one of the most beautiful towns in all of Italy. Perched over the Mediterranean, and complete with vineyards olive groves, lemon and orange trees, this is the paradise of many travelers who know and love Italy.

After check-in to our local villa and some free-time to rest and relax, we will enjoy a Neapolitan Banquet at a local restaurant. Each region of Italy boasts different dishes and techniques. Our local gourmet restaurant host will discuss some of the best dishes of the area before we try them and wash them down with wines whose origins go back to before ancient Rome…

Overnight in Sorrento. The group will be divided between a few private and luxurious Mediterranean villas, each one with amenities traditional for relaxation and a touch of the exotic.

Day 5: Cooking Course of Traditional Sorrentine Cuisine

Today, after breakfast, we will all get together for a day of cooking and fun in a large but elegant villa in the hills of Sorrento! Our kitchen will be of a very modern and professional type. Our local chef, also a local celebrity in her own right, will lead us through many of the famous dishes that the region is famous for. However, we first start at the local market, to learn how to find and choose the right products for our gourmet meal. We will also pick and choose local garden products from the local villa estate. Next, we learn how to prepare a full gourmet meal, with several different traditional culinary elements such as antipasti, different types of pastas, vegetable preparations, etc. etc... This full “hands-on” experience will result in a delicious feast later in the afternoon! An unforgettable experience!

Late afternoon and evening will be free to enjoy the sights and sounds of Sorrento.

Day 6: Sorrento and Amalfi Coast Excursion

After breakfast, we will enjoy a day excursion along the Amalfi Coast. The Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful rides in all of Europe. Imagine yourself gliding along a winding coastline (slowly of course), overlooking from hundreds of feet, the gentle turquoise Mediterranean lapping along the beaches and cove laden inlets of the exotic shores…While the mountains tower above you and plummet to the seas, the flora and fauna of the region are unique and quintessentially Mediterranean. We will enjoy stops at some of the major towns along the coast where we can enjoy and even purchase some of the local Italian pottery, inlaid wood, and other handcrafted items that are traditional only to this area.

Late afternoon and evening free

Day 7: Pompeii Excursion / Pizza Making Experience / Farewell Banquet

After another local breakfast, we head to nearby Pompeii for a tour of this ancient Roman city. Pompeii was destroyed by a volcanic blast from Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79. We will see one of the most complete and intact Roman cities still in existence. It is as if, in many places, that Rome still lives. We will be moved by the stories of the locals trying to flee but succumbing to the volcanic fury. We will also explore some of the art and architecture of ancient Rome that can only be seen as vividly complete here in Pompeii.

After free-time for lunch in Pompeii (in the modern town), we will enjoy an afternoon in Sorrento.

Early evening : We will get back together for a Pizza Experience!

Together with our local host and our local Neapolitan pizzaiolo, we will see how to make, from scratch, a delicious traditional pizza in a wood-fired oven. After we have mastered the arts of traditional pizza making, we will feast on our delectable pizzas, complete with local wine and water, as well as a traditional dessert. Pizza was invented in Naples for the Queen of Italy (Margherita).

Overnight in our private villas in Sorrento…

Day 8: Departure from Italy

Alas alas, all good things must come to and end….we transfer from paradise back to the local airport for our flight home….
